SCHOOL NOTES
        From the acting-Headmaster
As the 2024–25 academic year draws to a close, I want to express my thanks to the entire St Bees community - whose unwavering commitment continues to shape the success of our school. Every individual plays a crucial part in creating an environment where young people thrive, and I am immensely proud of what we have achieved together.

A major focus this year has been on academic development. With the dedication of our outstanding teaching staff - led by Mrs Johnstone and our Heads of Department - student attainment has continued to rise. Improved results, increased confidence, and record-breaking university outcomes speak volumes about the energy, talent, and commitment within our academic teams. Our founding students from 2018 now move on to top universities, marking a milestone not only for them but for the school’s journey since its reopening.
We have also seen exceptional progress in maths, humanities, languages and STEM subjects. Our SEN provision, led by Mrs Bertram, has made a transformative difference to many students, ensuring they are supported and empowered to succeed. With strong systems for pastoral care and safeguarding recognised in our most recent inspection, St Bees remains a place where every student feels safe, valued, and encouraged to grow. Sport continues to flourish here, with notable achievements in volleyball, fives, squash, and badminton. The dedication of staff and coaches has created opportunities and built a thriving sporting culture.

Beyond the classroom, our appearance on the BBC’s ‘Villages by the Sea’ in December highlighted the history and evolution of St Bees, reminding us all of the school’s deep roots and ambitious future. We have a new Headmaster joining us from September 2026, bringing international experience and a strong, student-focused vision. Until then, Mr Laurence Gribble will serve as Interim Head, ensuring a smooth transition. In a challenging economic and political climate, the continued support of Full Circle, the Trust, and our Old St Beghian network has been vital. The progress made over the last seven years must not only be protected but advanced, and I have every confidence that the school will continue to flourish.

Leading St Bees has been the greatest privilege of my professional life. Thank you to the Senior Leadership Team, our students, our staff, our parents, and the OSBs. Your support has been incredible.

As I retire, I leave full of pride, gratitude, and hope for the future of this remarkable school.

  Andrew Keep, Interim Headmaster.
